About Thika Methodist Church
Methodist Church in Kenya, Thika was started with support from Kariokor church and circuit as a mission church on 26th September 1989.
The church started with about 10 worshippers who would congregate at Thika YMCA where they would hire a hall for Ksh. 200 per service. The first service was on 31st September 1989 and the preachers would be sent from Kariokor Circuit.
The leaders lobbied to then Thika Municipal Council who allotted the church a plot at Jua Kali next to Metal box (current Nampak). The leaders under the guidance of Rev Ferdinand Mkare identified the present site as the most suitable to set up the church.
The first structure was temporary made from reed leaves. The first raising led by Mr. Jotham Kirima raised about Ksh. 27,000 which was used to erect a temporary wooded structure. With the assistance of the then Synod Bishop of Nairobi, Rev. Maureen Jones, they were able to put a concrete floor.
